The Isle of Barra, one of the most scenic Scottish islands, sits at the southern edge of the Outer Hebrides. Known for its white-sand beaches, turquoise coastline, and rugged Atlantic-facing hills, Barra feels both wild and welcoming. At its heart rises Heaval (383m), offering sweeping views across neighbouring islands and the open sea.

Barra’s history stretches from Norse influence to the strong Gaelic traditions still alive today. Kisimul Castle, the “castle in the sea,” remains one of the island’s most iconic landmarks. Barra is also home to the world-famous Traigh Mhòr beach runway, where planes land on the sand at low tide — a truly unique experience in Scotland.

Its diverse wildlife — seals, otters, seabirds and rich marine life — makes Barra a haven for nature lovers. This island is defined by its blend of dramatic landscapes and peaceful coastal moments.
