The 'Sugar Kelp' Ring

£180

The 'Sugar Kelp' ring, bespoke made for you on the Isle of Arran by Jess MacDonald Brass.

The 'Sugar Kelp' ring is created by carving, shaping and melting wax, then using a method called 'lost wax casting'. I use this process to create a soft rippled texture which looks similar to the surface of the sugar kelp.

Sugar kelp is a type of large brown seaweed found along the sheltered coasts of Scotland. Growing up to 4m long, sugar kelp plays a crucial role in marine ecosystems by providing many marine species, food, protection and habitats.

Under the water, each gentle wave carries the long kelp fronds in a mesmerising dance-moving in time with the rhythm of the oceans currents. This hypnotic movement and partnership, is a quiet testament to the interconnectedness of marine life and the extraordinary harmony in nature.

The price on this listing is for a handmade, one of a kind silver ring. If you would like to know more, it's best to email me and we can talk it through. Each will look slightly different as made individually for each customer, with roughly an 8 week turnaround.  Please email me before purchase with your finger size and any specific requirements, like width of ring or if you would like a price in gold or platinum. Thankyou.

My jewellery is individually hand-crafted or made in small batch production which is hand-finished - this is reflected in the final finish of each piece. This means that it will not be the same as machine made or mass-produced jewellery. Instead, it gives each of my designs a special artisanal touch.
