Maerl isn’t something most people ever see.
It lives just offshore, forming slowly, about a millimetre a year, building hidden habitats that support life far bigger than itself. Cod, scallops, pollock… all starting out in places like this. It’s fragile. When it’s damaged, it takes decades to come back.
This piece came from learning about that and from the work of Community of Arran Seabed Trust. What they’ve done around Arran has changed what’s possible. Real protection, real recovery, wildlife returning where it had been lost.
Wearing these earrings is a way of holding on to that.
A small, solid reminder that even the slowest growing things can shape entire ecosystems… and that they’re worth protecting.

My jewellery is individually hand-crafted or made in small batch cast production which is hand-finished - this is reflected in the final finish of each piece. This means that it will not be the same as machine made or mass-produced jewellery. Instead, it gives each of my designs a special artisanal touch.
