The Larimar 'Reef' necklace

£250

The Larimar Reef necklace made on the Isle of Arran by Jess MacDonald Brass

This one of a kind Reef pendant is made by melting and shaping wax, then using a method called 'lost wax casting'. The process and technique I use for the style of jewellery reminds me of the 'Bubble Coral' and Maerl that we have on the seabed around Arran, and hence it's name 'Reef'.

A natural reef is a ridge in the sea, usually made up of either rock or coral, sitting not far from the surface. Coral reefs are extraordinary, providing habitats for around 25% of marine species habitats, while also giving protection and allowing for safe breeding grounds for these species.

Larimar is often called the 'Atlantis Stone' and thought to carry the calm, open energy of the sea. Its soft blues are linked to clear communication, emotional balance and a sense of ease in yourself. Many are drawn to it for its steadying presence, helping to soften overwhelm and encourage honesty in how you speak and move through the world. Its a stone for those who feel connected to water and the space it creates mentally.

My jewellery is individually hand-crafted or made in small batch production which is hand-finished - this is reflected in the final finish of each piece. This means that it will not be the same as machine made or mass-produced jewellery. Instead, it gives each of my designs a special artisanal touch.
