Hirta & Dùn (St Kilda) 3D Pendant Necklace
Hirta & Dùn (St Kilda) 3D pendant necklace in sterling silver made on the Isle of Arran by Jess MacDonald Brass.
Have a piece of St Kilda close to your heart every day with this silver necklace shaped like the 2 Islands Hirta & Dùn). It's beautiful 3D effect shows the contours of the land and mountains.
Hirta and Dun, two of the main islands in the St Kilda Archipelago, have a quiet, haunting beauty that stays with you. Hirta, the largest, was home to a small, hardy community until 1930, when the last residents left, unable to keep up with the tough conditions of such a remote life. You can still walk through Village Bay and see the old stone houses and cleits they built—simple, clever structures that hint at how resourceful the islanders were. Just across a narrow stretch of water sits Dun, a rugged little island with steep cliffs teeming with seabirds, especially puffins. No one ever lived there permanently, but it was an important place for grazing sheep and hunting birds. Now, the whole archipelago is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, not just for its wildlife but also for the stories it holds of a way of life long gone.
